When sharks become extinct, the world will never be the same.

Hear me out. You have your normal food chain. Plankton, krill, and shrimp represent the bottom of the food pyramid. Then you have fish (all kinds). You then have seals, dolphins, whales (the non-baleen breeds). And finally at the top you have sharks.

                                                                      SHARKS
                                                     SEALS/DOLPHINS/WHALES
                                                              FISH (ALL BREEDS)
                                                     PLANKTON/KRILL/SHRIMP

It is common knowledge that when one of these kinks in a chain breaks off and becomes literally, extinct, the whole chain crumbles into oblivion. It is estimated that WE kill over 100 MILLION sharks a YEAR!!!! And just ask me how many people are killed by sharks a year...go ahead...I dare you to ask me.
Going back to the food chain, if sharks are destroyed, which at the rate people are going, it is very likely, seals, dolphins, and whales will over-populate, causing fish to become scarce. Considering the fact that fishing is a multi-billion dollar industry, I'm thinking that fish becoming scarce in all parts of the world would put our economy in an even deeper hole than it already is in. And certain countries, whose primary staple is seafood would suffer greatly.
Think about this: our world is 70% covered in water. 70%!!!! So if we disrupt the ocean's amazingly balanced food chain, we destroy our oceans...in other words, 70% of EARTH. When that happens, the remaining  30% won't last long.
To me, it seems that the act of killing a shark is equivalent to spilling hundreds of gallons of oil in the ocean. Both will cause horrific and irreparable consequences, and if we do not educate ourselves and become aware of the consequences of our actions, there is a very strong possibility that we will destroy our beloved world.

  1. Fish will become scarce?
wouldn't fish become over populated if sharks were removed? o.O
otherwise, I agree with you 110%, and i'm glad you made this blog. I also think sharks need to be saved!

    1. with sharks gone, the fish population will explode, but only for a little while, because they will eat all the food and then the population will crash, as well as destroying even more of the food chain

  4. i agree they have the same right to live as we do and we should be saving them instead of killing ... some peaple just dont think about how they would feel as a shark if somebody came and wanted to kill them

  9. "don't judge a book by its cover." So why does everyonr automatically think that sharks like to kill people? Or that the humans need to kill off the sharks? There not as bad as we think they are. I think we just need to leave them alone. How would we like it if people just started killing us because "we looked to scary?" #savethesharks.

  10. I agree with you, even if sharks look scary, then it doesn't mean we have to kill them. Besides I think that sharks are cool, just as long as you don't get too close! This helped me with an assignment that I had to do. Thanks! Also,
    SAVE THE SHARKS!!!!

  11. thats what i think to

  12. Fish population would go scarce because all the seals and dolphins, the shark's food, would overpopulate and then start eating fish at a much faster rate, leaving the fish population to dwindle.

  14. It would be great if we could educate the world about this disaster, which i personally think this is just as bad as global warming or something like that. if WE don't do something the sea life will die out leaving us completely dependable on land and the whole economy will go out of balance. I also have a prodject and multible articles like this have inspired me to let the people know about this :)

  16. Hi! I really enjoyed this post as I am doing a project on shark finning and the horrible effects it has not only on sharks but our world as a whole. I was wondering if you had any information on what would happen to the Lithosphere as well as atmosphere, if sharks became extinct,
